Lakeside Kubb — Privacy Policy
Lakeside Kubb (“the game”) is developed and published by Francisco Durand (Francisco Durand y Böning), Brennerpaßstr. 1, 81547 München, Germany (“we”, “us”). He is the controller responsible for the processing described here. Contact for privacy questions: hallo(at)franciscodurand.de.
This policy explains what information the game and this website use, why it is used, and what choices you have.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your data or share it with advertisers.
- We do not show ads or use analytics or tracking services. Unity Analytics and Unity Crash Reporting are switched off.
- We do not ask for your real name, email address, location, voice or camera.
- There are no in-app purchases. Purchases and payments are handled by Meta.
- The game has no voice chat and no text chat.
Information from your Meta account (Meta Quest)
On Meta Quest the game uses the Meta Platform SDK. With your permission (granted through Meta), the game receives:
- Entitlement check: when the game starts, Meta confirms that your account owns the game.
- Meta username (or your display name if you have no username): used as your player name in online matches. Your opponent's game shows it on the board beside the pitch (for example “Pat's turn”). Meta sends your Meta user ID along with it; the game does not use it.
- Age group (child 10–12, teen 13–17, adult 18+, or unknown): used only to switch off online play and friend invites for players in the child age group, as Meta requires. If the age group is unknown, nothing is switched off.
- Friends, invites and deep links: when you open a private room, the game tells Meta the destination “kubb_room” and the room code, and Meta shows you to your friends as joinable. You can then invite friends through Meta's own invite panel. When a friend accepts, Meta passes the destination and room code to their game, which joins them to your room. The game never reads or stores your friends list; the invite panel belongs to Meta.
These functions correspond to User ID, User Profile, User Age Group, Deep Linking, Friends and Invites in Meta's Data Use Checkup. We do not send this information to our own servers (we have none) and we do not store it, except for your opponent's player name in the local log file described below. Meta processes platform data under its own privacy policy: https://www.meta.com/legal/privacy-policy/
Legal basis: providing the game and the features you ask for (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR); for the age group, our legitimate interest in protecting children as Meta requires (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Online play (Unity Gaming Services)
Public matches and private rooms use Unity Gaming Services by Unity Technologies (Authentication, Multiplayer sessions and Relay). They are used only when you choose online play:
- When you first play online, Unity creates an anonymous player ID for your device. It is not linked to your Meta account. No Unity account or email address is needed.
- If Meta does not provide your name, Unity's generated player name (for example “BraveTiger”) is used instead, and your opponent sees that name.
- To connect two players, Unity's servers process technical data such as your IP address, the session and the room code.
- During a match, your player name, your throws and the position and direction of your headset and controllers are sent to your opponent, so that they see an avatar whose head and hands follow your movements. This goes through Unity's Relay servers.
Unity processes this data as our service provider and may process it outside the European Economic Area, including in the USA; Unity's privacy policy describes the safeguards it uses: https://unity.com/legal/privacy-policy
Unity keeps the anonymous player ID and the player name until they are deleted (see “Deleting your data” below). Legal basis: providing the online play you asked for (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
Data stored on your headset
The game keeps the following only on your device:
- your settings: language, the computer's difficulty and music on or off;
- a local log file of the last two sessions' matches, used for troubleshooting. It notes how each match went and, in online matches, the opponent's player name.
Uninstalling the game removes them. Nothing of this is uploaded.
Platform crash reports
The game does not use Unity Crash Reporting. Meta may collect crash reports in its role as platform provider; Meta's privacy policy applies to that processing.
Children
The game is made for players of all ages that Meta allows on Meta Quest, from 10 years up. For players Meta reports as 10–12 years old, online play and friend invites are turned off, so the game never connects them to Unity's services or to other players. Playing against the computer remains available.
Deleting your data and your other rights
Every player can ask us to delete their data, wherever they live and free of charge. In the same way you can ask to see, correct or receive a copy of your data, to restrict its processing, or object to it.
To ask, write to hallo(at)franciscodurand.de with the subject “Delete my data” and say what you want deleted. We reply within 30 days.
- Data on your headset: uninstalling the game deletes it. We never receive it.
- Meta account data: the game does not store it, so we hold nothing to delete. Your Meta account itself is governed by Meta's settings and Meta's privacy policy: https://www.meta.com/legal/privacy-policy/
- Unity anonymous player ID and player name: we have Unity delete them. The game does not show you this ID and it is not linked to your Meta account, so we may not be able to tell which ID is yours. If so, we tell you; the ID then stays anonymous, and once you uninstall the game it is no longer linked to your headset either.
Complaints: you may also complain to a data protection authority, for example the Bavarian State Office for Data Protection Supervision (BayLDA), Promenade 18, 91522 Ansbach, Germany.
Security
If you find a security problem in the game, please tell us at hallo(at)franciscodurand.de. We look into every report and fix confirmed problems as soon as we can. We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect the data handled for the game.
